UPCOMING EXHIBITS FOR 2012

This year we have two fantastic exhibits planned. The first is A Celebration Of Dickens In Pictures to mark the bicentennial of Charles Dickens that will run from August 25 – October 31 at the Yonkers Riverfront Library Gallery. In addition to the exhibit, I’ve organized two Day Of Dickens events, September 13th that will include the artists’ reception, and October 13th. Both friends of CBIG and our members will present artist demonstrations, craft sessions, a discussion panel and talks with Dickens experts, performance readings by The Friends Of Dickens, picture book story hours and a book signing and sale of published works by participants. During the exhibit run, check the library for additional related Dickens offerings. All events are free and open to the public, ages 3 and up, great for the whole family.

Our second exhibit ends a fantastic year and begins a new one. Mother Goose Re-Invented will include both traditional takes on Mother Goose rhymes and stories as well as twisted versions like the fractured fairytales that have been so popular in recent years. This show runs from December 6, 2012 – January 16, 2013 at the Flinn Gallery located in the Greenwich Public Library.

Look for further information on both exhibits on this blog and sign up for email notifications so you don't miss exciting news about CBIG

CATCHING UP

Members of CBIG’s board were delighted to speak at the NYPL’s Children’s Literary Salon, hosted by Betsy Bird earlier this month. This program is for adults interested in children’s literature. Maria Madonna Davidoff (our postcard designer), H. Ruth Karpes (one of our hostesses for our seminars), Diana Ting Delosh (communications officer/blogzine manager), Vicky Rubin (webmaster/listserve manager), and myself, Donna Miskend (president/exhibition curator) were on the panel. A few of our members came by to cheer us on!
To give an idea of who we are as a Group I showed a brief visual presentation that included artwork from past and upcoming exhibits, general illustrations and examples of published books and other products by our members. This was followed by a discussion about the history of CBIG, how we have evolved and our future plans for the group. There were questions about the children’s book industry, being an illustrator in today's market and how the Group supports our members’ careers. As an added bonus, the group was listed in the NYPL’s program brochure for May-August, and they chose Vicky’s artwork to feature. The brochure is available at all NYPL branches.

It was a wonderful afternoon and gave us a chance to highlight the talented artists that make up CBIG.
